Best Baby Shower Gift Ideas for 2020

Let's face it, being a mom is no easy task. This is especially true if you are expecting your first baby. There are plenty of things to stress over and worry about - your registry doesn't have to be one of them.

Start a Baby Registry

First things first, you need an easy and reliable place to build your registry and invite your friends and family. MyRegistry is great pick for all your baby registry needs.

Whether you are planning your own baby shower or brainstorming the best baby shower gift ideas to get for someone else, we put together a list of items every mom DEFINITELY needs (whether they realize it or not). Here are our top 10 baby shower gift ideas for expecting moms:

One thing babies are really good at: lounging around. The DockATot is a great gift idea because it gives your baby a safe and comfortable place to stay put, play, or rest and is incredibly easy and convenient to carry around. Designed in Sweden, these docks are as stylish as they are comfortable.

We had Ella in a DockATot from day one, and she really enjoyed it. You can get the DockATot Deluxe+ designed for newborns up to 8 months, or the DockATot Grand for 9 months up to 36 months.

You can get them in all sorts of different styles and buy different covers to change their appearance too.

Your baby needs to sleep, and so do you! Sometimes babies aren't exactly cooperative when it comes to meeting these sleep requirements though, so having a good swaddle can help new moms and dads get baby to sleep quickly and stay sleeping longer.

Newborns love to be wrapped up snuggly — it reminds them of the womb. The Nested Bean weighted swaddler goes one step further and places a tiny weight in the chest area, mimicking the weight of your hand on baby’s chest.

We tried several different swaddles and found that these weights ones really helped Ella get to sleep faster and longer throughout the night.

Car Seat

That new baby has to get around town and go shopping with mommy somehow, so you are going to need a safe and comfortable car seat.

For newborns it is very convenient to have a car seat that is easily detachable. The Graco SnugRide SnugLock 35 is perfect for that. It allows you to put your newborn in a carseat, which quickly attaches and detaches from the car seat base. Just pop the entire car seat out and go.

Since babies should rear face as long as possible, you want a carseat that can grow with your child and maximize the time they are able to rear face. The Graco Extend2Fit is great next car seat for when your child outgrows their newborn one.
This one allows you to rear face, front face, and can extend and adjust to fit your rapidly growing baby. Plus this one has adorable bows on it which we love (obviously).

I’m not a fan of buying new car seats every few months, so definitely invest in one like this that will last as many stages as possible. Our almost 3 year old is still using his Extend2Fit, and Ella has been rear-facing in hers since about 6 months old.

Sometimes you have to roll around with the baby.

Well remember that Graco SnugRide SnugLock we just talked about? The Graco Click Connect stroller easily lets you pop that car seat right into it so you can easily transition from the car to the stroller, and vice-versa.

It comes with an infant/toddler seat, but if you have a SnugRide SnugLock car seat, you can easily attach and remove it. This stroller can handle newborns and children up to 50 pounds, so again fitting the theme for durable products that grow with your baby.

Babies poop, and they poop a lot. Seriously, they basically just eat, sleep, and poop. In fact a newborn can go through upwards of 10 diapers in a single day.

All that diaper usage can really add up and new parents can expect easily find themselves spending $50+ per week on diapers alone.

Grovia Cloth Diapers

I know cloth diapering might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it can save a lot of money over the course of those diaper-wearing years. Otherwise, help mama out and get some diapers - and not just newborn sizes.

But don't worry, supermarkets like WalMart will exchange your unopened diaper boxes in for another size - just make sure you keep the receipt. We had to do this with Ella because she quickly outgrew newborn and needed size 1 diapers instead.

There’s also that growing trend for using cloth diapers. These cloth diapers are eco-friendly, reusable, and cost effective in the long run. Because they are cloth and don’t use harsh chemicals, you can feel good about putting them on sensitive little butts while saving the landfills from literally TONS of diapers over the course of your baby’s diaper-wearing days.

Because you can reuse them and adjust them to your growing baby, you can get a few dozen cloth diapers and never have to buy another diaper. It’s a great way to help the environment and save some money.

Baby Bottles

It doesn't matter if you are breastfeeding or formula feeding baby, you are going to need quality bottles. Look for ones that help reduce colic, are BOA free, and dishwasher safe.

Whether you plan to breast feed or formula feed (or both), you’re going to need some bottles to hold that baby fuel.

Ella's favorite are the Nuk Simply Natural baby bottle and the Comotomo baby bottle. Babies can be picky with their bottle though, so it might take some trial and error and many attempts before you get it right.

Baby Toys

The Play Kits by Lovevery

Babies need toys, but not all toys are created equally. There are so many bright, loud, and obnoxious things for babies to play with today. With so many toys out there, it’s easy for new parents to wonder if they are buying the right ones to stimulate that growing baby brain.

So LOVEVERY came up with an easy answer for parents to take all that guess work out of the equation. Why not just have a monthly subscription for toys that are age-appropriate and designed for your developing baby?

The LOVEVERY play kits are a subscription baby toy service that delivers monthly toys designed specifically for you baby's age and developmental stage. Plus they use sustainably sourced wood and 100% organic cotton fabrics so you can rest assured that your baby is playing with safe, eco-friendly toys.

LOVEVERY also makes a fantastic play gym that was rated one of the "Best Playmats of 2020" on BabyList.

Nursery Furniture

A new piece of furniture can be an expensive investment, but if you're welcoming a new one into the world, they are probably going to need a dresser and a crib at the very least.

Practical moms (I like to think I am practical) will prefer pieces of furniture that are durable and can be used well past the baby stage and into the toddler and child age too.

Alma Papa Solid Wood Crib

Bloom makes trendy and modern looking cribs, high chairs, and bouncers. They source their American beech wood from sustainable forests to craft their elegant baby furniture pieces.

Their cribs are high functional too and can adjust to go from a newborn crib all the way up to a toddler bed for children up to 5 years old.

I think furniture is one purchase that you should treat like an investment. Purchase something solid, safe, and that will last for as long as you need it.

Baby Carrier

I can't even begin to say enough about the Baby Tula Carrier. If you haven't noticed, the recurring theme here is that babies need to sleep, and sometimes working mamas need to get things done while baby sleeps.

Baby Tula took that idea and made it look good. Baby Tula carriers come in a variety of sizes and styles for every child, and they look great. They are ergonomic, stylish, and perfect for wearing a baby around all day in comfort.

These carriers are top-notch, and they have an almost fanatic level of following. Make sure when you see someone wearing one, you yell "TULA in the wild" and watch what they do.

They are also a great way for dad to get involved and bond with baby. I think Jay spoiled Ella a bit too much with our Tula though, because now its the only way she takes a nap.

We have the TULA standard, just make sure you get the infant insert for newborns and babies under 15 pounds though.

Baby Clothes

Every new baby needs clothes, and in varying sizes. It's amazing how quickly babies grow, and before you know it your little newborn is fitting into 12 month clothing.

A lot of moms will stock up on newborn outfits, and baby will quickly outgrow them (or some big babies won't fit in them to begin with). So help out these mamas and get them some clothes for down the road.
